Same-day appointments in Claremore!  Jason Macias, DO, is board certified in Internal Medicine and he joins Utica Park Clinic today!  Dr. Macias is a member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Macias earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 2003.  He received his master’s degree in Biomedical Science from the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa in 2009.  He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa in 2010.  He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center College of Medicine in Tulsa in 2013. Dr. Macias is a veteran of the Armed Forces having served in the US Army from 1993 through 1995.  He also served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1995 through 1999. Dr. Macias welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans.  He will begin offering same-day appointments later this week.  His office is located on the campus of Hillcrest Hospital Claremore at 1501 N. Florence, Suite 201 in Claremore.  Appointments can be set by calling 918.341.1886 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Today is #InternationalGummyWorm Day and we thought we’d share the story behind a popular candy kids love. Did you know it was the Riegel family of Germany who introduced Gummy Bears to the world? Hans Riegel Sr., a confectioner from Germany created a hard based candy he and his wife sold at street fairs. After lackluster sales, he changed the recipe to a gum based candy and the shape to miniature bears. He recalled seeing trained dancing bears that would perform at street festivals during his childhood in the late 19th century. Being that kids would eagerly run to see these bears with excitement, he figured bear shaped candies would go over well with his target audience.
